Even though "Artropolis" is a virtual online environment, just looking around and walking through the island makes you imagine that it -could- be real somewhere, with a twinge of the impossible.
I designed it to look like modern society had found a remote abandoned island with remnants of an ancient artistic culture. As the back story goes, modern artists moved in and built their art studios on top of the ruins, in the hills, and along the water's edges.
Special care is given to every detail so that audiences can explore it as cyberart in its own right.
As a place that also builds a sense of arts community, it was important to design it for realtime intereactions and navigation, which makes Second Life such an amazing platform to do design.
